Employment at Alaskan Observers, Inc.

Alaskan Observers, Inc. is certified by the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Alaska Department of Fish & Game to provide biological observers to commercial fisheries in Alaska. We are also the sole contractor providing observers to the West Coast Groundfish Observer Program. Biologists employed by us are given the opportunity to gain valuable field experience in a marine setting and to provide data necessary to achieve a sound management plan for the protection and benefit of future fisheries resources in the Bering Sea, North Pacific, and on the West Coast.

West Coast observers receive up to $350.00 to help offset the cost of relocating to the West Coast, receive per diem, lodging, and mileage reimbursement when they are on travel away from their home ports, are reimbursed each month for the cost of cell and internet service, and are enrolled in a group major medical insurance policy on the first of the month following the month in which they begin training. West Coast observers also have access to a 401-k plan after completing four months of service. West Coast Observers who take year-round positions in the program also received 14 days paid vacation each year.

Applicants hired to work in the North Pacific (Alaska) program receive room and board during training, during field deployments, and during debriefings, and Alaskan Observers provides transportation from Seattle to Alaska and back (observers are responsible for the costs of getting to Seattle and from Seattle back home).
