Keep Virginia Beautiful, Inc. is a diverse group of people dedicated to reducing litter and waste, preserving our State’s natural beauty and resources, and educating all citizens to become better stewards of the environment.
Our mission is: “To engage and unite Virginians to improve our natural and scenic environment”.

Litter Prevention • Reducing cigarette litter • Reducing plastic bag litter • Improving litter law enforcement • Eliminating dumping illegally • Reducing roadside litter through responsible covering of vehicle loads
Waste Reduction • Establishing more convenient and responsible recycling and disposal options for electronics and household hazardous waste • Improving options for recycling organic waste such as yard trimmings and food scraps • Promoting the reduction of construction and demolition waste
Recycling • Establishing stronger, consensus based goals for recycling in Virginia • Building stronger markets for recycled materials in Virginia • Expanding and improving recycling in schools • Establishing more “on the go” recycling options at special events and public venues
Beautification • Registering Virginia’s scenic viewsheds • Promote more walkable and bicycle friendly options in communities • Promote tree planting, roadside wildflower and scenic byway programs
Environmental Education • Support sustainable classrooms and “No Child Left Inside” initiatives • Facilitate funding toward expanded and enhanced outreach to diverse groups • Promote awareness of energy efficiency
How does Keep Virginia Beautiful get results?
KVB has established a strategic framework that will:
• Provide a “statewide voice” for litter prevention, recycling and education interests throughout the Commonwealth • Provide for improved communication and collaboration among Virginia’s numerous grass roots, business, and governmental organizations • Cultivate and support sustainable programs that result in measurable outcomes • Engage more citizens by linking them to volunteer opportunities and information
Some of KVB’s current initiatives include:
• An informative and reliable outreach and communications program, including a state of the art website • Statewide research to better understand the needs and interests of communities and businesses • Establishing strategic partnerships to better focus limited resources on critical issues and link funding to the partner’s important programs • Create a clearinghouse of training opportunities and resources to support local litter prevention, recycling and environmental education professionals and volunteer leaders
